Dogs, Livestock and Bees
a) Any dog, including Guide Dogs, brought onto the site must be kept on a lead and under control at all times. Dogs are permitted to be off lead on Allotment Gardens if the garden is secure.
b) Any dog foul must be immediately picked up and disposed of appropriately.
c) Livestock must not be kept on allotment gardens, unless given prior written permission to do so by the council. Cockerels are not permitted at any time.
d) Where given permission livestock must not be kept in such a place or in such a manner as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance.
e) Any livestock must be kept in accordance with and comply at all times with all relevant legislation, regulations and guidance including but not limited to that produced by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
f) Any part of the allotment garden used for keeping chickens, poultry or other captive birds including pigeons or rabbits must be securely and adequately fenced to the satisfaction of the council.
g) Structures that are used to house any animals must comply with the council specifications.
h) Beehives are not allowed on the allotment garden except with the prior agreement and permission of the council.
- The tenant will be required to sign a copy of the council terms and conditions for Bee Keeping confirming their acceptance of the said terms and conditions. A copy of the council terms and conditions for Bee Keeping are available upon application.
i) The tenant will be required to adhere at all times to the council terms and conditions for bee keeping.
j) Any recommendations made by the council must be implemented by the tenant with immediate effect.
k) If chickens or other captive birds including pigeons are kept on the allotment garden, the Tenant must comply at all times with all relevant legislation, regulations and guidance produced by Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), including the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs - Notifiable Avian Disease Control Strategy for Great Britain published on 26 September 2019 (The Control Strategy) or any updated version thereof (a copy of the Control Strategy can be obtained from www.gov.uk/government/publications/notifiable-avian-disease-control-strategy).
In accordance with paragraph 37 of the Control Strategy the tenant must immediately notify a suspected case of a Notifiable Avian Disease (NAD) to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). In addition to this the tenant must also immediately notify a suspected case of a NAD to the council/association. The Tenant will be responsible for all costs in connection with the disposal of carcases, cleansing and disinfection in accordance with The Control Strategy that is not directly funded by the APHA.
