Tenancies, Vacant Allotments and Allocations
a) All tenants must complete and sign a tenancy agreement. Each tenancy agreement will be in the name of one person, referred to as the Principle Tenant. Groups or organisations must submit a tenancy application for approval by the council; such tenancies will be in the name of one person also known as the Principal Tenant.
b) The Principle Tenant shall be the sole person responsible for the management and upkeep of the allotment garden, including rent payments.
c) Joint or shared tenancies are not permitted; however, the Principle Tenant may submit a request to the council to assign a Co-Worker to the allotment garden.
d) Vacant allotment gardens on an allotment site must be offered by the council to applicants on the waiting list in order of their application date. Where the allotment garden falls vacant because of the tenant’s death, the allotment garden may be offered to the nominated co-worker with council’s permission but there is no automatic right of succession.
e) The tenancy agreement year commences on 1 April and ends on 31 March.
f) The tenancy agreement of an allotment garden is personal to the tenant and the tenant may not assign, sublet or part with possession of all or part of their allotment garden.
g) The council will manage all waiting lists for allotment gardens on council managed allotment sites, all new applications are to be sent directly to the appointed Allotment Officer via the councils website.
h) Only one allotment garden tenancy is to be permitted per household unless special circumstances apply.
