Flood Risk Management

Register of structures and features

As a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) we are required to keep a register of assets or features, which we consider having a significant effect on flood risk within Stoke-on-Trent.

We have undertaken work to identify drainage and flood defence structures across the city and will continue to update this important source of information. This is an on-going process.

Our planning constraints mapping shows an indicative plan of our culverted watercourses across the city: planning constraints mapping. Please note this mapping is an indicative guide and if a watercourse is located within an area of interest, please contact the LLFA to discuss any queries.

Designation of third-party assets

Schedule 1 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 grants Risk Management Authorities the power to designate features which can influence flood risk. Assets can be natural or man-made structures (such as walls, earth embankments etc).

We will consider carefully the need to designate features on a case-by-case basis and will consider the risk of flooding to properties. Further guidance on designated structures can be found on the Government website.
