Citizen’s Assembly
What is a Citizen’s Assembly?
A Citizen’s Assembly brings together a diverse group of Stoke-on-Trent residents to have open, constructive conversations about issues that matter to our community. It’s designed to find common ground and develop practical recommendations for the council.
The assembly includes three key groups:
- Citizens – a representative mix of local residents.
- Expert witnesses – specialists who provide evidence and insights.
- Facilitators and organisers – who guide discussions and ensure fairness.
Purpose of the Citizen’s Assembly
- Engage residents in meaningful dialogue on important topics.
- Explore complex issues in depth.
- Ensure decisions are informed by a broad, representative range of views.
- Hear evidence from experts, question them, deliberate as a group, and agree on recommendations.
- Allow enough time for understanding, discussion, and decision-making.
- Present recommendations to the council, usually in a written report.
How it works
The assembly meets quarterly in hybrid sessions (online and in-person). Each meeting focuses on different council-related topics.
