Pollinator Pitstops
‘Pollinator pitstops’ and wider habitat creation
A pollinator pitstop is a place that a bee (or other pollinating insect) can stop and ‘refuel’ with nectar - which gives them the energy for flight - and collect pollen, which is vital for their survival.
The overall aim is to create a thriving network of pollinator pitstops across Stoke-on-Trent. Everyone can get involved, from individuals placing a small pot of nectar-rich flowers on a doorstep or balcony, to a school or business creating a wildflower meadow area in their grounds.
In addition to bees, many other wild species will benefit from these habitat creation activities. A variety of insects will visit the pollinator pitstops and improved habitat areas, including butterflies, moths and hoverflies. Boosting the insect population will help other wildlife such as birds and bats, who feed on insects.
