New Taxi Driver Applications

The cost is £238 (for a 3year licence or £187 (for a 1year badge/over 65’s)
Please note: The first step is to book your training. DO NOT submit your application until this has been completed.
New Drivers must provide the following:
- Full UK driving licence card both sides or old style paper licence.
- DVLA Summary
- Medical form completed by GP
- Tax check code If you are currently licensed or have held a Licence with another authority within the last 3 years
- Driving Standards Agency Certificate
- Recent photograph (Passport style image, with plain light background and front facing)
You should have already provided/done during the pre-application process:
- Attend Safeguarding Course Level 1 or 2 (face to face) within 12 months
- Attended new driver training
- Passed the new driver test (within 12 months)
- Enhanced DBS Certificate subscribed to the Update Service
- Proof of Right to Work

The first step is to book your training. This includes; safeguarding, new driver training and your examination.
DVLA Summary - (do not send check codes we need PDF or screen shot of the summary)
- Along the top headers click on - Get your code
- When the page loads with a code, underneath the code you will see the option to print/download your DVLA summary – click on that link
- This will open another page with your DVLA summary save it
Medical Form - Needs to be completed by GP less than 4 months old. Please DO NOT complete this until you have passed New Driver Test.
Tax Check - Get a code with HMRC.
DVSA Certificate - Equivalent Driving Standards Agency Certificate.
Proof of Right to Work - UK passport or right to work online share code required.
Disclosure & Barring Service Certificate Update Service - If you are currently signed up to the DBS update Service – there will be no need to complete a new DBS application form. Please email Licensing Services as soon as possible (scanned or photo) of your DBS Certificate
Disclosure & Barring Service Certificate Getting a new DBS - If you are not signed up to the DBS update Service, you must apply for a DBS Enhanced Certificate as soon as possible.
Once you have received your DBS Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service by post email it to licensing - hcp.licensing@stoke.gov.uk as soon as possible for the next stage to your application.
