Levelling Up Stoke-on-Trent

What is Levelling Up?

‘Levelling Up' is a term to describe a national agenda with the ambition to reduce the imbalances between areas and social groups across the country. It means giving everyone the opportunity to flourish and have a better standard of living.

One way this is being achieved is through investment in major transformational projects that will stimulate economic growth and jobs.

What does Levelling Up mean for Stoke-on-Trent?

In Autumn 2021, the city council was successful in securing £56m of the government’s Levelling Up fund to accelerate progress on three transformational schemes across the city.

  • The Goods Yard, Stoke – work has started on this key site next to the mainline train station to become a thriving urban living and leisure destination.
  • Etruscan Square, Hanley – the plans are for a mix of leisure and residential to bring new business and people into the city centre.
  • Heritage-led regeneration – Spode Works, Tunstall Library and Baths and Crown Works in Longton. All to be converted to residential use bringing vitality to our town centres.

Such significant investment will help stimulate the local economy. The redevelopment of these sites will create jobs, support apprenticeships and skills and help revitalise our towns. Bringing treasured historic buildings back into productive use and creating attractive places to live, work and enjoy will help to attract further investment and build on local pride in this great city.
