Tunstall public realm consultation
Tunstall has been allocated £4.5 million by the government to improve public spaces around the town centre.
Back in March, we held a public consultation asking how you currently use the town centre, and what you’d like to see improved. Since then, we’ve been hard at work looking at different ways we can improve Tunstall town centre for everyone.
Stoke-on-Trent Council, in partnership with landscape architects Planit, have identified four areas where this new funding could have the biggest impact. These are:
- High Street - Widening pavements around the town hall and reducing traffic speeds to 20mph along the length of the high street will help to connect the Town Hall to Tower Square, and make the area safer, more attractive and easier to move across.
- Tower Square - Recognising Tower Square as the heart of Tunstall’s Town Centre, we're proposing to add new greenery and inclusive play elements and reducing the amount of the square given to cars and revitalise the square as a space for socialising and events.
- Butterfield Place - Butterfield Place is currently an underused area, which is largely reserved for car parking. Our plans for this gateway space include outdoor market stalls or seating, new high-quality paving and a more pleasant, green connection to Scotia Road.
- The Boulevard - To better connect the High Street to the Memorial Gardens and the east of town, we're propsing to replace the existing underpass with a surface-level pedestrian and cycle crossing and provide new planting to the north of the town hall.
Have your say
We want to make sure these improvements benefit everyone who lives, works, or shops in Tunstall. Before we submit a planning application, we want to hear your views on our proposals – including anything you think could be improved.
