Be The Future

Can your business offer work-based opportunities for young people that are currently in or have left care?

As a city we believe there is more we can do to promote employment, education and training (EET) for our young people. Currently only half of our care-experienced young people in Stoke-on-Trent are currently accessing any kind of EET provision. It is our goal to change this, and quickly.

Working with the Stoke-on-Trent Local Enterprise Partnership, Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce and Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Careers Hub we have formed a group of dedicated partners to help achieve this.

Work experience is high on the list of ‘what employers want’ and it enhances applications and opportunities for paid employment. It helps young people to gain practical experience and skills, and confidence and interpersonal skills.

Be The Future pledge

As a business we ask you to sign our pledge. By pledging your support, you are agreeing to help young people take the first step into the world of work and help young people in Stoke-on-Trent to thrive, succeed and be the most they can be. Supporting the young workforce means growing and training up the next generation of workers, as well as giving back to your local community. By supporting young people to gain experience of the workplace and secure local jobs and training opportunities, you can help set them up for life.

By signing the pledge, you are committing to offering at least one targeted opportunity per 12-month period, specifically to support a young person in Stoke-on-Trent in their early working life. Stoke-on-Trent City Council is flexible about what this opportunity looks like and understand it needs to be adaptable to business size, needs and industry. This could be an:

  • Apprenticeship
  • Part-time or full-time job
  • Traineeship
  • Structured work experience
  • Mentoring young people to enter the workplace
