Charities and registered community amateur sports clubs
These are entitled to
- mandatory relief on occupied property
- discretionary relief on occupied property
- mandatory zero rating for unoccupied property
The first is an 80 per cent discount where the property is occupied by the charity or club and is mainly used for their charitable purposes.
We also have the discretion to give further relief on the remaining 20 per cent for properties occupied by certain not-for-profit organisations. Applications will be considered in accordance with the guidelines in the city council’s discretionary rate relief guidelines.
Charities can also apply for a zero rating relief where a property is unoccupied but will, when next occupied, be used wholly or mainly for charitable purposes.
