Help for young carers

A young carer is someone up to 18 whose life is affected by caring for a family member (often a parent, but can be a sibling, grandparent or other relative) who is disabled, has some chronic illness, mental health problem or other condition.

Young carers regularly carry out tasks usually associated with an adult, and assume a level of caring which would have an adverse impact on their development and life.

We carry out young carers’ assessments, if requested, to find out what needs young person has as a carer, and how these could be best met.

The assessment will take place in the school and aims identify any problems, understanding the need for physical and emotional well-being, social and educational support.
