Draft Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP)
Help shape walking and cycling in Stoke-on-Trent
We're currently developing our Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP).
This draft plan identifies improvements to make walking, wheeling and cycling around the city easier, safer and more appealing for everyone in Stoke-on-Trent.
By making our city safer and more convenient for walking, wheeling, and cycling, we can transform Stoke-on-Trent. Imagine:
- Vibrant communities: A stronger sense of place, safer streets, and better connections between our neighbourhoods.
- Healthier lifestyles: More people choosing active ways to travel, improving their physical and mental health.
- More accessible: Alternative ways of getting around to access green spaces and the natural environment.
- A happier, greener city: Less reliance on cars means cleaner air and a more sustainable future.
Based on data, community feedback and local priorities, we have drafted a proposed network of routes and areas for investment over the next 10 years.
Potential cycle routes (maps can be found in the plan document):
- Trentham to Stoke
- Royal Stoke University Hospital to Longton (via Stoke)
- Stoke to Birches Head
- Joiner's Square/University of Staffs to Wolstanton
- Hanley to Burslem (via Middleport)
Potential walking route improvements:
- Trent and Mersey Canal Towpath
- University of Staffordshire to Town Centre
- City Road, Church Street and Hartshill Road
- Penkhull to Civic Centre
- Boothen to Church Street
