Sherborne Close – Proposed changes to road closure

The council has received a petition asking us to re-open the road closure on Sherborne Close. We have therefore reviewed the current arrangements and would like to hear what local residents think before any decision is made.

Why are we consulting?

Residents told us that when Barlaston Road is closed—either because of an accident or planned roadworks—the diversion route is much longer. This can cause extra congestion and inconvenience for people living in the area.

To help manage traffic better during these situations, we are asking for your views on two possible options for Sherborne Close.

What are the options?

Option 1 – Fully Re‑open Sherborne Close

  • The current closure would be removed.
  • Sherborne Close would be open to all through‑traffic at all times.

Option 2 – Install a lockable gate

  • The current closure would be replaced with a gate.
  • The gate would normally stay closed, just like the current setup.
  • The gate could be opened when needed, such as when Barlaston Road is closed, to provide a shorter, managed diversion route.
