Naming ceremonies

Civil naming ceremonies are for children of all ages, to celebrate the birth of a new baby or welcome adoptive or step children into the famiiy.

It is a chance to announce the names you have chosen and to make promises to your child. You may also want to choose other adults who are prepared to promise a special supportive relationship.

Naming ceremonies can be held at Hanley Town Hall or at any premises licensed for marriage.

You may choose from a selection of poems and readings to enhance the ceremony and can present your child with a special gift to mark the occasion.

A record of the ceremony will be signed and presented to you during the event.

The naming ceremonies we offer must not contain any religious references. If you wish to have a religious ceremony, contact your local church or religious community.

You must pay a non-refundable booking fee. The cost will vary depending on the day and venue you choose for your ceremony.

The birth must have been registered before booking your ceremony and you will be asked to provide the birth certificate.

Neither the naming ceremony nor any document issued after the ceremony has any legal status.
