What projects will be supported?

The Big Green Fund will be allocated to community groups who want to tackle the following issues:

  • Tackle climate change
  • Protect Nature
  • Bring Down the Cost of Living
  • Helps to improve people's mental wellbeing

What groups can apply for the Big Green Fund?

Any not-for-profit organisations can apply for this funding. The funding is for those who want to fund a specific project that benefits your local community. Examples of those who can apply are as follows:

  • churches or chapels that are excepted charities (that means they do not need to register with the Charities Commission)
  • co-operative societies
  • community benefit societies
  • Community Interest Companies
  • credit unions
  • registered charities in the UK or Isle of Man
  • social enterprises
  • Scout, Guide or Woodcraft Folk groups
  • any other group that can prove that they are not-for-profit

All groups must be registered or based in the UK and also operating in your local community.

Where can I apply for the funding?

You can apply for funding by visiting www.stoke.gov.uk/biggreenfund and complete the online application form. Your applications must be submitted by midnight on Sunday 23 July.

What makes groups eligible for the fund?

To be eligible for the fund, organisations must follow the criteria below:

  • take place in the City of Stoke-on-Trent
  • still be active and maintained up to 31 December 2028
  • not exceed £15,000 to deliver
  • registered or based in the UK
  • operating in your local community
  • not-for-profit

Can anyone apply for funding?

Funding is only available for those in not-for-profit organisations. Funding will not be given to:

  • individuals
  • people or projects outside of Stoke-on-Trent
  • any groups that promote any political activities or religious beliefs - but we can consider projects led by religious groups that are for the benefit of the whole community
  • Play equipment

If successful, when will my project commence?

All projects will commence Monday 18 September. A full list of the timescales can be found below:

  • 12 June – media launch – grant applications open
  • 23 July – grant applications close
  • 7 August – shortlisting starts
  • 14 August – site visits
  • 21 August – final costings established
  • 28 August – successful bidders notified
  • 4 September – schedule of works developed
  • 18 September – project delivery commences
