Appeals against decisions on applications

You have the right to appeal against a decision on your travel assistance application on the following grounds:

  • the transport arrangements offered
  • the child’s eligibility for travel assistance
  • the distance - measurement between home and school in relation to statutory walking distances
  • the nature of the route between home and school.

Two-stage appeals process:

Stage One involves a review by a senior officer. Applications must be submitted within 20 working days from receipt in writing (including email) of the Local Authority’s decision on the application for travel assistance.

Stage Two is if you are not satisfied with the outcome at Stage One and want to apply for your appeal to be heard by an independent panel. Applications must be submitted within 20 working days from receipt of the Local Authority’s Stage One written decision. Stage Two appeals will be heard within 40 working days of receipt of the appeal application.
