Further support available for Stoke-on-Trent businesses affected by Covid-19

Published: Friday, 2nd July 2021

Businesses across the city are now set to receive a further grant to help them through the coronavirus pandemic, under phase five of the ‘Additional Restrictions Grant’.

On 16 June 2021, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) issued an amendment to the Additional Restriction Grant guidance following the four-week extension to the Governments roadmap. This allows Stoke-on-Trent City Council to specifically help businesses that have remained closed or have been severely affected by this four-week extension to Step Three of the roadmap. This comes as previous phases of the fund saw a total of £5,709,441 allocated in 1,406 grants.

Phase five of the Additional Restrictions Grant scheme therefore aims to provide funding to the following businesses:

  • Nightclubs
  • Theatres
  • Travel Agents
  • Bridal Shops
  • Businesses whose sole trade relies on the wedding industry e.g. venue dressers which only dress wedding venues, and not any other venues/event

Businesses will receive payments as follows:

Rateable Value of premises

Grant amount

Rateable Value 15,000 and under

£1334

Rateable Value 15,001 to 50,999

£2000

Rateable Value 51,000 and over

£3000

Only businesses on the rating list are eligible for the funding. Businesses do not need to apply and will be assessed from previous Local Restrictions Support Grant and Additional Restrictions Grant applications, and will receive funding automatically. All businesses identified will receive an email confirming eligibility and payment by Wednesday 30 June 2021.

Leader of the city council Abi Brown said: “We are really pleased that we have been able to once again offer our local businesses grants to help them recover from the coronavirus pandemic. We want to see our local businesses thrive and we know any type of funding is a lifeline that can help businesses to keep going through the restrictions in place in response to coronavirus and with the recent news about the furlough scheme being lifted.

“It is fantastic to see so many businesses have already benefited from the ARG grants, and we want as many businesses as possible to be able to benefit from this next phase.”

Any businesses that come under the above sectors but have not yet received a grant should contact the city council’s Business Rates team on 01782 238274.
