People across Stoke-on-Trent are invited to attend Remembrance Sunday services across the city this weekend.
Services and parades will be held on Sunday 8 November, providing an opportunity for residents to honour those who gave their lives in service to their country and recognise the sacrifices made by generations of servicemen and women.
Services planned at:
- Stoke (Kingsway)
- Bucknall (St Mary's Church)
- Goldenhill (St John's Church)
- Longton Park
- Fenton Town Hall
- Swan Square, Burslem
- Hanley Town Hall
Most services and parades will take place between 10.15am and 11.30am.
Additional remembrance events will also be held in Brindley Ford and Tunstall.
Residents who are unable to attend in person will be able to watch the City Service at Stoke Cenotaph live on the city council’s Facebook page from approximately 10.40am.
Councillor Joan Bell, Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, said: "Many residents will attend services across Stoke-on-Trent this weekend as communities gather to remember those who served and those who never returned.
"This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire. Designed by Reginald Mitchell, the aircraft became a symbol of courage, service and sacrifice during the Second World War.
"Remembrance Sunday gives us an opportunity to pay our respects to those who gave their lives in service of their country and to reflect on the lasting impact of conflict on individuals, families and communities.
"It’s important that we continue to remember those who served, reflect on the freedoms their sacrifice secured and ensure their legacy is never forgotten."
