The six-week Regulation 19 consultation is now live and is the final stage of public consultation before the proposed Local Plan 2020-2040 is submitted to government for independent examination.
Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said:
“Our Local Plan consultation has now started, and these drop-in events are an excellent opportunity for people to find out more about the proposals and the next stage of the process.
“We've already listened to thousands of comments from residents, businesses and organisations during the previous consultation and acted on that feedback.
“The proposed Local Plan includes more brownfield development opportunities, fewer proposed Green Belt releases and stronger protection for our local green spaces as a result.
“These events are about making sure everyone has the opportunity to understand the proposed Local Plan, ask questions and take part in the final stage of the consultation before it is submitted for independent examination.”
Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker, cabinet member for growth, regeneration and transport, said: “This proposed Local Plan provides the framework for how Stoke-on-Trent will grow over the next 15 years, supporting new homes, investment, jobs and infrastructure while ensuring development is sustainable and reflects the needs of our communities.
“People told us they wanted more build on brownfield incorporated into the revised Local Plan and that is what we have done.
“The Local Plan will influence how Stoke-on-Trent develops for years to come, so it's important that people understand what's being proposed, how they can take part in this final stage of the consultation and the process for making a formal representation.
“Our planning officers will be available throughout the drop-in sessions to answer questions, explain the proposals and discuss the consultation process.”
The proposed Local Plan has evolved significantly since previous consultation.
Feedback received in 2025 has helped inform the revised proposals, with changes made including the identification of more brownfield sites for development, fewer proposed Green Belt releases and enhanced protection for local green spaces.
The first three consultation events will take place at:
Tuesday 11 August – Norton Central Social Club, 94 Knypersley Road, ST6 8HZ, 4pm-7pm
Wednesday 12 August – Trentham Learning Centre, Allerton Rd, Trentham, 4pm-7pm
Thursday 13 August – St John’s Church and Welcome Centre, 30 Greasley Road, Abbey Hulton, ST2 8JE, 4pm-7pm
