Nuisance motorbike seized in Longton in crackdown on anti-social behaviour

Officers have seized an off-road motorbike in Longton as part of ongoing action to tackle nuisance bikes.

The seizure forms part of Operation Transom, a citywide joint operation between Staffordshire Police and Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) team, which is helping to create safer and more welcoming communities.

The operation targets riders who damage green spaces and put the public at risk.

An ASB officer was carrying out a joint patrol with PCSOs in the area when they spotted an off-road motorbike being ridden illegally on Anchor Road before entering an alleyway off Short Bambury Street.

The bike was followed at a safe distance and, when it came to a stop, officers spoke to the rider.

The 21-year-old was co-operative and provided his details, admitting to riding without a licence, insurance or an MOT.

Response officers attended the scene and the bike was seized, with the rider being reported for driving offences.

Councillor Duncan Walker, cabinet member for safe and resilient communities and housing at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “The ASB Team are continuing to work closely with Staffordshire Police to tackle, deter and educate those who blight our communities with anti-social behaviour.

“We know this issue is important to people in our communities. We’ve listened to feedback and are taking action. We’re fortunate to have so many fantastic green spaces in the city. We will not let people ruin them with mindless behaviour.

“This incident also shows the value of officers being out there in our communities, speaking to people. The rider engaged with officers, was honest about what had happened and the situation was dealt with quickly and safely.”

Alongside enforcement, a programme of education is under way to ensure riders and parents understand it is illegal to ride off-road bikes in public spaces, including parks, pavements and wasteland.
