Crackdown on anti-social driving on Reginald Mitchell Way

Published: Thursday, 22nd January 2026

Work is underway to remind drivers in the city that anti-social driving will not be tolerated and enforcement action will be taken.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) team has been working with Staffordshire Police to install extra signs along Reginald Mitchell Way warning of powers to seize vehicles used anti-socially.

The Section 59 warning signage has been installed along the section of the A527 linking Sandyford and Tunstall following reports of anti-social driving.

The work forms part of Operation Transom, the partnership work between Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s ASB Team and Staffordshire Police. Targeting nuisance vehicles in hotspot areas, and seizing vehicles used to commit anti-social behaviour.

Dangerous driving in the area has led to excessive noise and ongoing disturbance to nearby residents, as well as increasing demand on police resources.

Councillor Duncan Walker, cabinet member for safe and resilient communities at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “We are sending a clear message that dangerous and disruptive behaviour on our roads will not be tolerated.

“We are receiving reports that Reginald Mitchell Way is increasingly being used by so-call ‘road enthusiasts’. This is not acceptable use of our city’s roads.

“We take these reports of anti-social driving extremely seriously, particularly when it is having a direct impact on residents’ quality of life and will continue to work closely with Staffordshire Police to crackdown on this.

“We are committed to creating family-friendly town centres, and these signs are part of a wider action to deter offenders and keep our communities safe and peaceful.”

Chief Inspector Laura Davies, of the Stoke-on-Trent north local policing team, said: “We have teamed up with local partners to address the issues that matter to local communities the most.

"We're continuing to work closely with local partners to implement problem-solving approaches to these types of issues, making full use of anti-social behaviour legislation and criminal justice outcomes.

“This behaviour will not be tolerated and any vehicles being driven anti-socially will be seized.”

Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire Police will continue to monitor the area
