A tenant in Chell Heath has been evicted following their conviction for a serious crime – bringing relief to residents who faced ongoing disruption.
It’s part of ongoing work from the city council and partners to make Stoke-on-Trent’s town centres the most family friendly in the country.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council took action after the tenant assaulted three police officers and carried out persistent anti-social behaviour that repeatedly impacted families and neighbours.
The tenant had been known to the council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Team and Staffordshire Police for a significant period of time, with numerous incidents linked to disorder, domestic abuse and criminal behaviour. These issues led to regular police call-outs and ongoing disruption for local residents.
Councillor Duncan Walker, cabinet member for safe and resilient communities at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “We’re taking back our streets and working to make them the most family-friendly in the country. We will not tolerate any form of abuse, especially where tenants are convicted of crimes serious enough to put others at risk, particularly emergency workers.
“This behaviour was unacceptable and had a significant impact on the surrounding community and it is great work carried out by the ASB Team to deal with this tenant.
“Where tenants or members of their household commit crimes or repeatedly breach their tenancy, they risk losing their home. Our priority is always to keep our residents and our neighbourhoods safe.”
Chief Inspector Laura Davies, of the Stoke-on-Trent north local policing team, said: “We do not underestimate the effects that this tenant’s behaviour had on the local community and we welcome Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s action.
“This result demonstrates that anti-social behaviour and violence against emergency workers will not be tolerated, and we will take robust action against those responsible.
“We are committed to working alongside local partners to keep communities safe across Stoke-on-Trent and wider Staffordshire.”
Staffordshire Police welcomed the partnership working, noting that action like this demonstrates that violence against emergency workers will not be tolerated and carries serious consequences.
Residents experiencing anti-social behaviour can report concerns direct to the ASB Team via asb@stoke.gov.uk. In the event of an emergency, always contact Staffordshire Police on 999.
