A new pet garden of remembrance has officially launched so residents can remember their beloved pets in a peaceful environment.

The Paw Print Remembrance Garden, at Carmountside Cemetery and Crematorium, has been created to allow residents to remember their pets in the way they choose.

Various options are available, including a dedicated area to scatter ashes, memorial plaques, a memorial ashes vault and keepsakes that people can take home with them.

The garden was officially opened today by the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Councillor Steve Watkins.

It has been constructed to be environmentally friendly – the benches are made from 100% recycled plastic, and the planting is bee friendly, so will encourage pollination. A ‘bug hotel’ has also been built to encourage biodiversity and natural pest control and provide shelter for beneficial insects.

Councillor Majid Khan, cabinet member for health integration and wellbeing, said: “For many of us, pets are an integral part of the family and losing them is often a sad, difficult time. This new garden of remembrance is a welcoming space to remember your furry friends and with many options available, you will be able to commemorate them in a way that is personal to you.”
