An official statement on the ongoing works with Severn Trent Water.
A spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "Stoke-on-Trent City Council continues to work closely with Severn Trent Water to coordinate essential infrastructure and improvement works across the city. This partnership ensures that maintenance and upgrade projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to residents and businesses.
"Our Highway's Team constantly review and plan roadworks, to ensure works carried out by all Utility Companies and their contractors meet the highest safety and quality standards, and align to our other projects and priorities.
"The current work being carried out by Severn Trent is a part of a major £25 million scheme to replace Victorian-era water pipes, which were never designed to withstand heavy traffic loads. This will give the city a secure water supply, prevent disruptive leaks, and give us infrastructure fit for the next 100 years or more.
"It is vital not only that residents and others are kept informed of progress, but that this work is done as quickly as possible. All works must be managed in a manner that considers the impact on the people who live and work here.
"We appreciate people's patience, and would remind motorists that diversions are carefully planned to maintain traffic flow and ensure public safety while crews carry out this essential work. All road users should follow clearly marked diversions. Ignoring or bypassing diversions not only increases congestion but can put road users, residents and on-site workers at risk."
