Community groups across Stoke-on-Trent are being invited to apply for Small Heritage Asset Grants to help preserve and celebrate the city’s rich history.
The scheme - funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) - offers grants of between £500 and £2,500 to support the restoration of local heritage assets, from repairing fixtures and fittings to covering essential labour costs. Groups will need to provide a small contribution in return, which could include volunteer time or other support.
The initiative welcomes both new and existing projects that align with the council’s priorities of making the city safer, cleaner, greener, fairer, healthier, wealthier and more skilled.
The funding can be used for a wide range of projects, such as:
- Restoring historic buildings or landmarks
- Breathing new life into local monuments or memorials
- Supporting community-led heritage initiatives
- Helping people connect with and enjoy the city’s history
Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for people who are passionate about our city’s heritage. As we mark our Centenary year, it feels more important than ever to protect the places and stories that make Stoke-on-Trent unique – and to celebrate the role they play in our city’s identity.”
Projects must be completed by 31 March 2026 and show good value for money while supporting the city’s wider development goals.
Councillor Sarah Hill, cabinet member for finance, anti-poverty and corporate services, said: “Our city’s heritage belongs to all of us. These grants will give communities the chance to care for the places and traditions that matter most – whether that’s restoring a building, improving a local landmark or bringing people together to celebrate our shared history. By working together, we can make sure Stoke-on-Trent’s story is told for generations to come.”
Applications must be submitted electronically by midnight on Friday 31st October 2025.
