Building Better Neighbourhoods: Ward and Environment Budget Launched for 2024/25

Published: Wednesday, 15th May 2024

Elected members at Stoke-on-Trent City Council have been given funding to support local improvements, projects, and environmental initiatives

with the launch of the Ward and Environment Budget for 2024/25.

The annual fund aims to enable councillors to improve the lives of local people within their ward. £5,000 will be provided to each councillor to support local groups and projects that enhance the community’s welfare and environmental well-being.

Residents and community groups are encouraged to contact their local councillor with suggestions about how this money can best be used to make a real difference in their local area.

Councillor Amjid Wazir OBE, Deputy Leader and cabinet member for city pride, enforcement, and sustainability said:

“This funding will make a real difference and not only help address pressing community issues but also foster a sense of ownership and pride among residents. We are committed to serving our residents, and together, we aim to build stronger communities.

“Ward councillors have worked alongside members of the community to help local groups, fund environmental improvements and support the work of charities that improve our residents’ lives. I am really pleased to see this fund renewed for another year to continue this good work in the community.”

Councillor David Williams, cabinet member for community safety and resilience, said:

“We know that local residents know precisely what is needed in their areas, so it’s important that we empower local people and groups to improve our communities for everyone.

“When we are out listening to residents on their doorsteps, they put forward brilliant ideas, telling us exactly what’s needed to make their area better. It’s important that we listen and act upon what they have to say.”
