A Stoke-on-Trent resident has thanked the council after their stolen mobility scooter was found and returned.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council enforcement and cleansing officers discovered a mobility scooter abandoned in Ball Green on Wednesday 6 December.
Officers were quick to contact Staffordshire Police who were able to confirm a mobility scooter had been stolen that morning, which matched the one found.
Councillor Amjid Wazir, cabinet member for city pride, enforcement and sustainability advised: “Thanks to the quick actions of our teams and working relationship with colleagues at Staffordshire Police, the mobility scooter was promptly returned to its rightful owner.
“I know the owner is incredibly grateful to be reunited with their only lifeline to the outside world, and whilst I am disgusted that anyone would steal a mobility scooter in the first place, I am pleased we were able to help get the resident their independence back, and fast.”
Sergeant Jonathan Tench, of the Stoke North local policing team, said: “We’re pleased to have worked alongside our partners to return the stolen property to its owner as quickly as possible.
“Theft can have profound impacts on people, businesses and livelihoods. We are committed to proactively patrolling our streets, investigating reports thoroughly and going after thieves who blight our communities.”
Officers returned the scooter after relevant ID checks and a maintenance check had been completed.
The mobility scooter was found in the Ball Green area of the city, following cleansing and environmental officers conducting proactive illegal dumping site inspections.
Councillor Amjid Wazir continues, “We are fortunate that since the completion of the 100-day clean up campaign, our teams are now able to prioritise proactive action, and visit known hotspots to tackle some of the grime.
“Our presence and zero-tolerance approach is definitely being heard loud and clear.”
