Residents asked to donate warm clothing to support the most vulnerable this winter

Published: Thursday, 12th January 2023

Stoke-on-Trent residents are being asked to continue to donate warm clothing, if they can, to help those in the city who are most in need over winter.

The donations will support the Stronger Together Through Winter initiative, a campaign by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, voluntary and community sector organisation VAST and businesses and groups throughout the city.

The Potteries Centre is collecting hats, scarves and gloves for adults and children which will be distributed throughout the community to those who need them. Anyone who has any of these unwanted items can drop them off at The Potteries Centre, at the donation bank on the upper mall by Jack & Jones.

Cllr Abi Brown, leader of the city council said: “We understand that many households are feeling anxious about the rising cost of living and that this is an incredibly difficult time for many of us. It fills me with pride to see that our city is coming together to help those most in need through the Stronger Together Through Winter campaign. Residents and groups across the city have been making warm clothes donations, and this support is really appreciated.

“We all know that Stoke-on-Trent is the kindest city in the UK and we have a proven track record of supporting others when they need it most. We know that times are tough for everyone but I’d urge anyone who does have any unwanted warm clothes to donate them to support our most vulnerable residents this winter.”

Potteries Centre Manager Amy Whittaker “We are humbled and proud to be able to collaborate with so many local organisations and provide valuable aid so they can continue to undertake their life-changing work with the Stronger Through Winter campaign. Our wonderful, kind and diverse Stoke-on-Trent community is known for banding together when times are tough.”

Residents can make donations until 31 March 2023.
