Take on the Middleport Lego Challenge at Stoke-on-Trent Libraries

Published: Wednesday, 5th October 2022

Stoke-on-Trent Libraries have teamed up with Middleport Pottery to challenge young Lego enthusiasts to build a replica of the Historic Narrowboat Dane.

The challenge begins, as part of Libraries Week (3-9 October), with attendees of the libraries’ weekly Lego Club encouraged to build their version of the Dane. To enter parents will need to take a picture of the finished model and email it to Middleport Pottery.

The first prize will be a free craft session at Middleport Pottery during the October half-term holidays with a runner-up prize of free Play with Clay sessions, also at Middleport.

Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health said:

“Children from all over the city really enjoy weekly Lego Clubs in Stoke-on-Trent libraries.

“We are delighted to be working with Middleport Pottery and giving our junior members the opportunity to win free craft and play sessions at Middleport.”

Rebecca Loughhead, Heritage and Learning Manager at Middleport Pottery said:

“It’s great to be collaborating with the Lego Clubs on this challenge to create Dane in Lego. This challenge is an opportunity to get creative and engage with the heritage on our doorsteps. We hope to encourage families to come and see us, and Dane during the October half term”

Dane is a historic wooden working narrowboat which was built in 1946. The boat transported raw materials from Cornwall to Middleport and continued to carry finished Burleigh ware to Liverpool where it was exported around the world.

The Middleport Lego Challenge is running now until the 16th October 2022, with entries emailed to info@re-form.org using subject line Middleport Lego Challenge.

Lego Club runs at all Stoke-on-Trent library sites including Bentilee, City Central (Hanley), Longton, Meir, Stoke and Tunstall. Please find timings on Stoke-on-Trent Libraries Facebook page – www.facebook.com/stokeontrentlibraries.
