Family Learning in schools

Stoke-on-Trent Adult and Community Learning (ACL) works with schools to deliver Family Learning workshops that help children and adults learn together in a fun, supportive environment.

Led by experienced teachers, our sessions complement classroom learning and give families practical ideas to continue learning at home.

What is Family Learning?

Family Learning brings children and the important adults in their lives together through enjoyable activities that support learning and development.

Our workshops help to:

  • Support literacy, numeracy and digital skills
  • Build confidence and social skills
  • Encourage positive attitudes towards learning
  • Strengthen family relationships
  • Support learning at home
  • Inspire adults to return to education or training

Who can take part?

Family Learning is open to:

  • Parents and carers of school-aged children
  • Grandparents and other family members involved in a child’s learning
  • Adults looking to improve their skills and confidence
  • Families who would benefit from additional support with learning

Workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of individual schools and communities.

Learner eligibility

Adults attending ACL Family Learning courses must:

  • Be aged 19 or over
  • Live in Stoke-on-Trent
  • Meet residency requirements where applicable
  • Complete an ACL enrolment form
  • Provide eligibility evidence if required

How to book Family Learning for your school

We are currently developing an online booking system that will allow schools to:

  • View available workshops and courses
  • Request Family Learning provision
  • Submit booking enquiries directly online

The Magic of Rhymes and Sounds: Introducing parents and carers to rhymes and sounds to support language development and early literacy skills.
