InformationThe Local Authority are seeking providers who would be willing to deliver free of charge a two-day Paediatric First Aid Course which focuses on emergency scenarios that face professionals looking after young children and infants, including playgroup leaders and childcare providers. The course will need to meet the requirements of the Red Cross and /or St Johns Ambulance. The delivery of the course needs to meet the service needs of the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sector. Stoke-on-Trent has a Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) workforce who are required to hold current and relevant Paediatric 1st Aid Certificates in order to meet the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, section 3, 3:24 The training course will need to be delivered on a flexible basis in order to meet the requirement of the Early Years workforce. Sessions need to be delivered during office hours, at weekends and in the evening and on different days in the week, at least once a month to meet the demand of the sector. Venues, refreshments, course materials and certificates need to be supplied by the training provider. Scope The course covers how to deal with accidents and emergencies involving young children. Course content The role of the first aider Eye injuries Managing an emergency Foreign objects Communication and casualty care Head injuries Allergic reaction Heat and extreme cold Asthma and diabetic emergencies Poisoning, bites and stings Bleeding Resuscitation Bone, muscle and joint injuries Seizures Burns Spinal injuries Childhood conditions (e.g. meningitis) Treatment of an unconscious casualty Choking Timeframe The training should include 12 courses delivered over the next 5 months using the academic calendar from December 2014 to March 2015. These sessions need to be held on different days of the week, including Saturdays. The training should commence early December until 31st March 2015. Methodology The training courses will need to comply with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, section 3, 3:24 to ensure that the course is relevant for workers caring for young children.
