Policies, procedures and strategies directory - Information for tenants receiving Universal Credit

If you are in receipt of UC, you must inform the Department for Work and Pension (DWP) of your rent increase. On 1 April 2024, you will receive a ‘To-do’ notification on your UC online journal titled ‘Confirm your Housing Costs’. You will need to update this with your new rent and the date it is effective from (1 April 2024). Please do not report your annual rent change until you are prompted to do so on your ‘To-do’ list and do not use the ‘Change of circumstances’ option to do so. The council cannot do this for you and if you do not do this, you will be underpaid housing rent costs which may lead to your rent account going into debt.

You will have previously received a rent notification letter from the city council advising you of your new weekly rent charges including relevant service charges.

If you require any further help or advice on this matter, contact your Housing Officer or your Job Centre Plus Work Coach.
