All Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) should be safe and properly managed. If something is wrong, you should first contact your landlord or managing agent. They are responsible for repairs and maintenance. If the problem is not fixed, you should contact the council. What you should report You should tell us if you have concerns about a HMO, such as: Issues that affect health or safety, for example if fire alarms are not working Poor conditions, such as disrepair, rubbish build-up or overgrown gardens Overcrowding, where more people are living in the property than allowed What happens next When we receive a complaint, we may contact you for more information. We may ask for photos to help us understand the problem. An officer may visit the property to carry out an inspection. They will also contact the landlord or managing agent to investigate and take action if needed.
