Stoke-on-Trent City Council is reviewing access arrangements on Sherborne Close, Newstead, to improve traffic flow and reduce disruption when nearby roads are closed.

The road is currently barricaded off to prevent it from being used as a through road.

Following recent calls to reopen the road, the city council is considering options to improve traffic management during incidents or planned roadworks on Barlaston Road.

Improving access through the estate at these times could help keep traffic moving and reduce congestion in the wider area.

  • Option one: full re-opening - remove the existing closure and permanently re-open Sherborne Close to through-traffic.
  • Option two: lockable gate - replace the existing closure with a lockable gate.

This would normally remain closed, maintaining the current arrangement but could be opened when essential, such as during closures of Barlaston Road, to allow a managed diversion route.

The council is keen to hear from residents before any decision is made.

Residents are encouraged to complete and return the consultation form by 28 March 2026. Forms can be returned by email to traffic.orders@stoke.gov.uk (please quote “Sherborne Close” in the subject line) or submitted by taking a photograph of the completed form and emailing it in.

A spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “Your views are important in helping us determine the most appropriate option for the area. We would welcome feedback from residents before any final decision is made.”
