Stoke-on-Trent families benefit as programme helps 600 families to thrive

Stoke-on-Trent’s Family Matters programme has reached a major milestone, directly supporting 600 families and giving them the best possible start in life.

There are now 600 families open to support through the Locally Trusted Organisations, connecting them with partners including schools, the police, local charities and community and faith organisations.

Family Matters brings together practical advice, activities and opportunities so families can build strong foundations for their children’s futures.

Activities and services are being delivered by the city’s network of Locally Trusted Organisations - local groups who use their knowledge, skills, and understanding of families’ experiences to help them navigate challenges and make the most of opportunities.

The Locally Trusted Organisations are:

  • Alice Charity
  • Just Family
  • YMCA
  • Family Focus
  • Project Indi
  • Gingerbread

The programme has been shaped by the voices of local families and communities from the very beginning. Their lived experiences, ideas and feedback have been central to designing support that truly reflects what families need and value. This emphasis on listening and co-creation ensures Family Matters is not just delivered to communities, but with them – making it more responsive, inclusive and impactful.

Councillor Sarah Jane Colclough, cabinet member for Children’s Services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “Family Matters shows what can be achieved when the city works together to give children a strong start. It’s a brilliant example of this city looking after its own and providing a vital safety net when people stumble in life.

“This is a real city partnership. I’d like to thank all the organisations involved - from our schools to the voluntary and community groups - for coming together to create opportunities and experiences that help children thrive. This is what Stoke-on-Trent does best - looking after its families and investing in their future.”
