Stoke-on-Trent City Council is joining forces with the STILL support group to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week (9–15 October) with a ribbon display outside the Civic Centre in Stoke.
Now in its 22nd year, Baby Loss Awareness Week is led by SANDS and raises awareness of pregnancy and baby loss, which affects around one in four pregnancies. The week provides an opportunity for families, friends and communities to come together, share their experiences and remember the babies who are no longer with us.
The campaign also highlights the vital work of health professionals and support services to improve pregnancy and birth outcomes – and to ensure that families receive the help and understanding they need.
Councillor Sarah Jane Colclough, cabinet member for children’s services said: “My heartfelt condolences go to anyone who has experienced pregnancy or baby loss. It’s something that is often difficult to talk about, and people can feel very alone in their grief. That’s why the work of groups like STILL is so important. Displays like this give families a way to remember their babies, raise awareness and come together as a community.”
Residents can get involved by talking to friends and family about Baby Loss Awareness Week and joining the Wave of Light by lighting a candle at 7pm on Wednesday 15 October.
The ribbons will remain on display until Sunday 10 October.
To support parents and families, the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) works with those who have used local maternity and neonatal services to gather feedback, celebrate great care and improve services.
Bereaved parents and families can share their experiences or find out more by emailing sasot.mnvp@nhs.net or completing the MNVP online feedback survey: https://nhs.welcomesyourfeedback.net/s/6ejm16
