Stoke-on-Trent Markets are marking the city’s Centenary year with a nostalgic celebration like no other.

On Saturday, 4 October, Markets Time Twist will see each of the city’s markets transport visitors to a different decade, with free themed events bringing music, fashion, games and iconic characters to life.

  • Hanley Indoor Market - Nostalgic 90s: Relive the days of Britpop, girl power and Shelley’s Laserdome.
  • Longton Market - Electric 80s: Celebrate the era of New Romantics, Rubik’s Cubes and leg warmers.
  • Tunstall Market - Sensational 70s: Step into disco fever with bell bottoms, platform shoes and glittering dance floors.
  • Stoke Market - Swinging 60s: Embrace the decade of Beatlemania, mini skirts and the moon landing.

Each market event will run from 10am to 4pm, with a packed line-up of live entertainment, fancy dress, competitions, games and surprises for all ages.

Councillor Amjid Wazir, cabinet member for city pride, enforcement and sustainability, said: “Markets have always been at the heart of Stoke-on-Trent’s communities and what better way to celebrate our Centenary year than with a trip down memory lane. These events promise fun, colour and nostalgia for all generations to enjoy.”

Councillor Lynn Sharpe, Centenary champion at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “Our local markets have always been a part of life in Stoke-on-Trent - picking up your bargains, a dozen oatcakes or your fruit and veg.

“Markets Time Twist celebrates our fantastic local markets with a big dose of nostalgia and plenty of fun. Everyone will have their own memories - whether it’s queuing outside Shelley’s in your best gear or meeting your mates by the blue clock up Hanley. So pop along to your local market – or pick your favourite decade – and celebrate our Centenary.”
