Stoke-on-Trent Fostering has launched a new Foster Carer Promise – a clear and heartfelt commitment to supporting the city’s foster carers at every stage of their journey.
The promise sets out a wide-ranging package of support, designed to ensure that foster carers feel valued, heard and equipped to make a lasting difference in the lives of local children.
Built on the values of trust, honesty and respect, the Foster Carer Promise offers a blend of practical benefits, emotional support and professional recognition – all tailored to the needs of those who care.
Highlights of the Foster Carer Promise include:
- A strong support network - with access to mentoring, buddy systems, local support groups and free memberships to national fostering organisations
- Recognition and celebration - including regular events, awards and milestones to honour outstanding contributions and years of service
- Clear and open communication - with honest conversations around fostering expectations and children’s care needs
- Professional respect - with foster carers involved in planning and decision-making about the children they support
- Practical help when it’s needed - including clear escalation routes and responsive support from staff throughout the week
- Ongoing training and development - with personalised plans, in-person sessions and guidance from fostering-experienced professionals
Councillor Sarah Jane Colclough, cabinet member for children’s services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “Foster carers are the heart of our care system – they offer safety, stability and kindness when it’s needed most. This promise is our way of saying thank you, and of showing that we’re here to support them every step of the way.
“If you've ever thought about opening your home and heart to a child who needs it, now is the time to take that first step. We’ll be with you from day one, with the right training, guidance and support to help you thrive.”
