Stoke-on-Trent businesses can ‘fly high’ with new start-up grant scheme

Stoke-on-Trent start-ups are being given the chance to ‘fly high’ with a brand-new business grant scheme.

New businesses looking to grow and prosper are being encouraged to apply for the funding which has been launched as part of Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Fly High Start-Up & Enterprise project.

The scheme, which is being funded through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), aims to support businesses to launch, develop and grow.

Grants of between £500 and £3,000 are being made available for businesses which have been trading less than 12 months or to anyone thinking of starting a business in Stoke-on-Trent.

Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “If you have recently started a business and need some extra support, or you’re an aspiring entrepreneur looking to take that next step, then I would encourage you to apply for a Fly High Start-Up grant. This funding can be put towards buying new equipment and technology or helping you to launch a new website or brand.

“We have some fantastic businesses in the city but we know that times are hard for everyone so we hope this funding will be able to give you a helping hand. This scheme is one of a number of projects we are planning to launch in the near future, to support businesses and stimulate economic growth.”

Eligible businesses must be a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) with between one and 249 employees and an annual turnover of less than £42 million.

Companies can be from any sector but successful applicants will be required to match the grant they are awarded by 50 per cent, using their own funds.

Funding can only be used for the purpose of helping to launch, grow or develop a business and cannot be used to support general running costs.
