From Saturday 8 July 2023, Stoke-on-Trent Libraries will be launching their Summer Reading Challenge.
This campaign is aimed at 4-11 year olds, with the goal to encourage children to keep reading during the summer holidays.
The theme for this year's Summer Reading Challenge is Ready, Set, Read, using the magic of sport and play activities to spread the word about reading.
On 8 July, you can visit the following libraries and be part of this year's challenge:
- Bentilee Library
- City Central Library
- Stoke Library
- Longton Library
If you can't get along on that date, you will also get the chance to sign up at Meir and Tunstall libraries anytime from Monday 10 July.
The challenge is simple, you just need to:
- Sign up in your local library
- Visit the library at least 3 times over the summer holidays
- Read six or more books
Leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council Cllr Jane Ashworth commented,
“The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for children across Stoke-on-Trent to carry on their reading across the school holidays. This year’s theme is based around sport and play activities, with plenty of fun-packed books available to read in our six libraries across the city.
“Every child who completes the Summer Reading Challenge will get a free goodie bag, which includes a fantastic certificate, bookmarks, stickers, a pencil, a door hanger plus a free copy of Rebel Girls, to take home and keep.”
