Jubilee-themed Victorian Street Party coming to Gladstone Pottery Museum

Published: Tuesday, 24th May 2022

As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Gladstone Pottery Museum will be hosting a special Victorian Street Party.

The royal-themed celebration takes place on Saturday 4 June from 10am until 4pm and will transport visitors back to the last female monarch – Queen Victoria.

Join us for a street party on the cobbles with Queen Victoria as guest of honour. Visitors will be able to see some Victorian artefacts and discover more about her reign. Children are invited to come along in Victorian costume with the Queen acting as judge for the best dressed.

Listen to tales of Victorian Raptors in a series of presentations featuring live birds of prey with Raphael Falconry. Hear about the things Victorians discovered and witnessed about birds during their adventures around the empire.

So, while the industrial revolution was in full swing, so was the expansion of natural science. They will touch on extinction, evolution, classification, fascinating finds, experiments….and some great stories including a tale about Queen Victoria herself.

Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health said:

“We are delighted to celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Gladstone Pottery Museum with our very own Victorian Street Party.

“This event has something for all of the family, with craft activities, real birds of prey and demonstrators offering commemorative tiles or vases, for a small cost.

“We will also have short films from local film historian Ray Johnson playing throughout the day from Queen Elizabeth’s visits to the city throughout her reign.”

The Victorian Street Party takes place at Gladstone Pottery Museum on Saturday 4 June between 10am and 4pm, with all paying entrants to the museum receiving admission to the party. Please note all street party refreshments are chargeable.

Stoke-on-Trent has a host of activities organised to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee across the city. All details can be found at www.stoke.gov.uk.
