Am I a carer?
If you look after anyone who because of illness or disability needs support and cannot manage without help then you are recognised in law as a carer.
Many people at some point in their lives become a carer even though they may have other responsibilities. If you are a carer we may be able to provide you with help and support.
The All- Age Carers' Support Service
The All-Age Carers’ Support Service is delivered by North Staffs Carers and provides a single point of call for all carers. North Staffs Carers work alongside a number of local partner organisations, Young Carers Assessment Team and Adult Social Care to maximise support and bring together services to form a clear pathway, ensuring carers receive seamless individualised support throughout their caring journey.
All support workers have extensive knowledge of carers, with some having specialised experience around long-term conditions, drug and alcohol misuse, learning disability, mental health, parent carers amongst all other caring roles. Carers will also receive support from our telephone befriending service to help reduce loneliness and isolation.
Outreach groups and drop-in sessions are located in various settings throughout Stoke-on-Trent offering localised and flexible support, preventing carers having to travel large distances to access support. Groups within local communities give carers the chance to partake in activities offering an opportunity to take a respite break, learn new skills, develop existing ones, and improve self-esteem and confidence. Encouraging carers to be connected and feel part of their local communities, they are also made aware of local services and how to access them.
To find out more about this service and what it can offer please visit S-O-T All Age Carers Service | North Staffs Carers (carersfirst.com), give us a call on 01782 793100 or email info@carersfirst.com.
Carer's Assessments
What is a Carer Assessment?
Carer’s Assessments are offered by your local council, free of charge. Carer’s Assessments are carried out to discuss how your caring responsibilities affect you physically and emotionally and to identify any support you need as a carer and whether these needs are eligible for support. If your needs are eligible, a support plan will be created. If you are not eligible for support, information and advice will still be available to you.
Who can apply for a Carer Assessment?
Anyone who has an unpaid caring responsibility can ask for a Carer’s Assessment.
