A shining ray of hope
Stoke-on-Trent’s iconic half marathon - The Hanley Economic Building Society Potters ’Arf - is due to return on Sunday, June 12, 2022.
More than 1,700 runners, walkers, relay teams and junior race entrants have booked their places for this incredible, inspiring, community-spirited event!
The Potters 'Arf is one of the most unique races in the UK. It has amazing Stokie support; places for all; a wonderful atmosphere at the city centre finish; special Potteries medals created by Wade Ceramics, fantastic challenges and more! We want it to be a shining ray of hope in 2022.
The event includes a 13.1-mile race, as well as walking and relay team sections for those who don't want to run the full distance. There is also a 1,000-metre junior race for youngsters aged six to 15 years old. Check out our About The Race and Race Day Info/FAQs pages for more information on each event activity.
The Potters 'Arf has huge mental and physical health benefits, as well as raising thousands of pounds for local charities – including the main causes the Douglas Macmillan Hospice and The Alice Charity. Organisers hope that around 2,000 participants will be able to tackle this year's event.
The safety of residents and participants is of the upmost importance and we will be regularly reviewing the guidance provided by the Government and England Athletics in the run-up to the event.
Qualified fitness instructors at our sports and leisure teams across The Wallace Centre, New Horizons and Dimensions have created training plans for the Potters 'Arf Marathon. These are aimed at all levels and there is a 12-week beginner and a 10-week intermediate programme to work from. For more information, download the training programmes here:
Businesses or organisations that sign up three or more relay teams will receive £5 off each relay group entry. Businesses or organisations that sign up 10 or more individual adult runners or walkers will receive £2.50 off each half marathon adult runner or walker entry. To take advantage of this offer, please email email@example.com.
Tribute to Potters 'Arf founder Don Shelley
Two Potters ’Arf Marathon trophies will include tributes to event founder Don Shelley, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Mr Shelley’s granddaughters are also planning to take part in the walking section in his memory. Special race t-shirts will also carry a tribute to the inspirational organiser. Mr Shelley founded the Potteries Marathon in 1982 and the race went on to become the Potters 'Arf in 2005. Race partners want to remember him at this year’s event and have worked with the family on the tributes. For more information, please click here.
