Two lucky Council tenants are wrapping up warm for winter after becoming the latest winners of a prize for paying their rent by Direct Debit.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council set up the reward scheme to incentivise tenants to pay their rent by Direct Debit in April 2019. A quarterly draw is held for all Direct Debit rent payers with the winner receiving £200 of High Street vouchers and an annual draw for tenants who have paid their rent by Direct Debit throughout the financial year without any payments being recalled or the instruction cancelled.
The winners of the £200 High Street vouchers for this quarters draw, Mr and Mrs Mear of Sneyd Green, plan on treating Mrs Mear to a nice warm coat as winter is coming and some items for around their house. The couple have been paying their rent by Direct Debit for four and a half years.
Direct Debit is the easiest way for tenants to pay rent as it can be set up for the payment to be taken weekly, fortnightly or on any day of the month to suit the day that wages or benefits are received.
Paying via this method is also the cheapest payment method for the council to process therefore offers better value for money and for tenants it is the easiest.
More than 800 tenants have set up Direct Debit payments since April 2019, tenants can set up payment via our website or by downloading the MyStoke app.
Councillor Joanne Powell-Beckett, the city council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “It’s fantastic to see people are now choosing to pay their rent via Direct Debit and it’s great to see a tenant rewarded for this.
“Paying via Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay rent and we would encourage more of our tenants to use this method of payment.”
