Gladstone Pottery Museum lands top TripAdvisor accolade

Published: Friday, 27th July 2018

A Stoke-on-Trent museum has been recognised as a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame winner.

Staff and volunteers at Gladstone Pottery Museum are celebrating after receiving the award, which is given only to establishments that consistently achieve great traveller reviews on the website.

The Hall of Fame was created to honour venues that have earned a Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years. The museum has now achieved this from 2014 to 2018. Winners include accommodations, eateries and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a superior customer experience.

Cllr Anthony Munday, cabinet member for greener city, development and leisure, said: “Being awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence five years in a row and inducted into their Hall of Fame is great news for the museum. A big well done must go to all the staff and volunteers at the museum who work hard and give up their time to make it such a fantastic place to visit.

“In terms of seal of approval, it doesn’t get much better than getting it from the people who are visiting the museum. Gladstone gets visitors from all over the world, it’s a fantastic museum which celebrates the heritage of our great city and it should be a source of great pride for all of us to have such a brilliant attraction on our doorstep.”

Since 2011, the Certificate of Excellence has recognised hospitality businesses that deliver consistently great service across the world. It is presented to approximately 10 per cent of total businesses on TripAdvisor that have consistently achieved great reviews over the past year. There is no application process for the Certificate of Excellence, and the achievement is earned over time.

When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the honourees that takes into account the quality, quantity and recentness of reviews and opinions submitted by travellers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.

Hayley Coleman, spokesperson for TripAdvisor, said: “TripAdvisor is pleased to honour exceptional hospitality businesses that have received consistent praise and recognition by travellers on the site.

“By putting a spotlight on businesses that are focused on delivering great service to customers, TripAdvisor not only helps drive an improvement to hospitality standards around the world, it also gives businesses and attractions both large and small the ability to shine and stand out from the competition. Well done to Gladstone Pottery Museum.”

The  museum is open Tuesday to Saturday and Bank Holidays, between 10am and 5pm. Visitors can discover how bone china tableware was made in the original workshops and giant bottle kilns of the former Gladstone China Works, now preserved as the last complete Victorian pottery factory in the country. There are also demonstrations of traditional skills and visitors can try their hand at throwing a pot, making a bone china flower or painting pottery. The museum has free parking.
