Shoppers to benefit from reduced parking rates across all towns this Christmas

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has agreed to reduce Christmas parking charges across all towns in December.

From Monday 12 December to Sunday, January 1 2023, visitors to Burslem, Longton, Tunstall, Fenton, Meir, and Stoke will benefit from free parking after 3pm at one city council-run car park.

The car parks will be:

  • Burslem – on-street parking at Market Place.
  • Longton – Longton Exchange Car Park
  • Tunstall – Farndale Street Car Park
  • Fenton – City Road Car Park
  • Stoke – South Wolfe Street Car Park
  • Meir – Weston Road Car Park

Meanwhile, a special introductory rate is also being introduced at the brand new 730-space multi-storey car park at Smithfield in the city centre.

From 7am on Monday 12 December, the new car park is open to the public for just £1 for all-day parking. This offer will remain in place until Sunday, January 1 2023.

Councillor Daniel Jellyman, cabinet member for regeneration, infrastructure, and heritage, said: “Christmas is fast approaching and with it comes more footfall into our towns and city, for not only shopping but for Christmas events and the evening economy.

“Our newly built 730-space multi-storey car park is one of the safest in the city, with limits on access, so that you can only enter the site if you have parked there. We want visitors to the city to feel safe at any time of the day, especially at night, and this introductory parking offer of £1 for all day, will help support this.

“There is lots on offer in all of our towns, from great places to eat to fantastic independent shops. We want to encourage footfall into our towns, both for shoppers and visitors.”

The demolition of the 1960’s surface car park on the site has now paved the way for the multi-storey car park showcasing a state-of-the-art cycle storage hub and disabled vehicle bays. Rapid shutters will also be installed, and until then, security will be onsite 24/7 to not only add to the safety of the car park but also to assist and advise visitors.
The facility also offers 120-cycle spaces and 10-cycle lockers.

Sustainable light systems are also installed, external lighting powered by sensors will turn off during the day and interior lights on all decks and stairwells are motion censored, after five minutes they reduce to 50% lighting and then turn off after a further five minutes unless a vehicle or person enters.
