Traffic Calming
Traffic calming is an ideal way to reduce the accident rate on a road. It also reduces the speed of vehicles.
How do I apply for my street to be traffic calmed ?
Send us a written request to the address or email address below. This should be either a letter or petition. Include the name of the road or area where you think traffic calming measures should be installed.
What do we do when we get a traffic calming request ?
We will arrange to carry out an assessment of the street in question. This will allow us to produce a priority list for streets to be traffic calmed in the city.
What factors are taken into account when assessing a Traffic Calming Request ?
Our assessment includes the following information;
- pedestrian accident record over the last five years
- cyclist accident record over the last five years
- other accident records over the last five years
- peak hour traffic flow
- speed of vehicles
When is a traffic calming assessment carried out?
Assessments are carried out throughout the year, except during school holidays. During school holidays there is a slight reduction in the number of vehicles on the road. Therefore, this would not be truly representative and possibly effect the final assessment score.
