Road Safety in Stoke-on-Trent

mock accident exercise for emergency services

We are committed to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on Stoke-on-Trent's roads.

There were 1,164 road traffic casualties in 2007. This is a decrease on the previous year by just over 5.5 %.

We are working to reduce casualties through a combination of education, engineering and enforcement measures in line with government targets. The targets, outlined in their national road safety strategy, are:

  • a 40 per cent reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured;
  • a 50 per cent reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured; and
  • a 10 per cent reduction in the slight casualty rate.

Every year we produce a road safety guide. This free booklet outlines many of the services we provide for the residents of Stoke-on-Trent. Contact us to request your free 2008/09 copy of our guide, or follow the link below to download the document. This is a large file (8.65 MB) so if you have dial-up or slower speed internet access it may take more than 10 minutes to download.
