A wide range of services are provided to support people and help them to recover from mental distress and ill health.

Recovery is the underpinning philosophy of local mental health services and is explained by a key local partner organisation, Changes (click here to go to their website), in this way:

"Recovery promotes independence, personal autonomy and development, raises self esteem, confidence and personal aspirations, enabling you to lead a more fulfilling and purposeful life. In short recovery is learning how to live with, rather than suffer from, mental distress" (Changes website, 2013).

Services include:

  • Individual support;
  • Social, educational and creative activity groups;
  • Schemes, including a horticultural project, supporting people back into employment;
  • 'Carer support' for people looking after family members and friends experiencing mental health difficulties.
