North Staffordshire Building Control Partnership

The North Staffordshire Building Control Partnership is a partnership between the Building Control departments of Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.

What are the Building Regulations?

Building Regulations are national standards that apply to all types of buildings, from major new developments to an extension or alteration to your home.  They cover all aspects of construction, including:

  • Foundations
  • Drainage
  • Damp-proofing
  • The stability of the building
  • Insulation
  • Energy conservation
  • Ventilation
  • Heating
  • Fire protection
  • Means of escape in case of fire
  • Access and facilities for people with disabilities

The current standards are the Building Regulations 2010, which are made under The Building Act 1984.  The Building Regulations 2010 apply throughout England and Wales, and are constantly being reviewed to improve health and safety as well as improving efficiency.
